Dr Lorena Nessi is a journalist, researcher and lecturer with 15 years of experience across international media, digital culture and emerging technologies. She writes analysis for AI Story Front on how artificial intelligence reshapes opportunity, power and inequality.
She holds a PhD in Media, Communication and Digital Cultures. Her doctoral research examined how economic, cultural and social capital shaped the way people represented themselves on social networking sites. Her work since has followed the same question into blockchain and artificial intelligence: who benefits from new technologies, and who is left out.
She is a former multimedia producer for the BBC World Service in London and has taught at several universities, including the University of Oxford. She has written more than 500 articles on AI, blockchain and digital culture.
From Facebook’s early promises of self-representation to today’s artificial intelligence revolution, technology has offered new opportunities without necessarily removing the social and economic inequalities that shape who benefits.
